"Nimbus" items are "click" items that add some sort of a visual effect around / about your character.
These effects are dynamic (they have motion... they are not static).
An icon will appear on your buff bar when a nimbus is active.
Some Nimbus items even provide some sort of actual buff (i.e. levitation), which will be noted below.
Most Nimbus effects are somewhat subtle, meaning they can be hard to see (especially in some zones and the background / lighting in said zones).
It is possible to "stack" nimbus effects (you can have multiple nimbus effects going at the same time).
HOWEVER, my experimentation revealed that I could cast many, many Nimbus effects, that all show up on my buff bar, BUT... not all of them were necessarily visible in-game. It appears that it is somehow to related to the type of graphic... as in a ground effect vs feet effect vs hands effect vs head effect vs area effect and so forth. Hard to say for sure. You will just have to experiment and see which ones stack and visibly show up in-game, with each other.
ALSO, this does not mean that any buffs they may provide will stack with each other and / or they may be fully blocked / overwritten by other buffs that you may all ready have on you (or have cast on you, like the illusion buff Illusion Benefit Greater Jann or mount buffs like Mount Blessing Kala and up).
Nimbus items generally have a "buff" duration (they only last for a set duration of time). Generally, this is up to 1-Hour & 12-minutes (depending on level / AA's).
Nimbus items are primarily acquired via the Marketplace. Sometimes they are offered in special bundles (multiple items sold as a set).
Any notations below about a "Prize" item means it is acquired from one of the Legends of Norrath items (packs) as a random award ("Prize"). These Prize items are tradeable and can be converted into the actual Nimbus item (thus you do not necessarily have to expend Marketplace funds to get them).
Nimbus items can also be acquired via special quests and / or achievements.
Marketplace items are not always available year-round, nor are some of the special quests.

Broken Heart Nimbus		Achievement	A broken heart appears on and off above your head. Achievement: Erollisi Day NOTE: This nimbus effect pretty much exactly like the Share the Pain Nimbus (see below).
Burning Crystal Shard		Promotion	This item can be traded out for the Frozen Crystal Shard (see below) with Bertrand Bibblesworth in the Plane of Knowledge. This item was one (1) of two (2) items you could claim for buying the box version of the Omens of War expansion. These bonus items were later sold, temporarily, in the Marketplace as part the "Past Expansion Collector's Edition Bundle." Otherwise, there does not appear to be a way to acquire this item.
Butterfly Nimbus		Marketplace	Tiny butterflies will fly around you. BUFF: +40 to Magic Based Spell Damage.
Cherry Blossom Nimbus		Marketplace Gift: Cherry Blossom Nimbus	This item was a March 2011 offering in support of the Red Cross effort for the Japanese tsunami relief. Otherwise, there does not appear to be anyway to acquire this item.
Crocus Nimbus		Marketplace	Flowered plants will sprout up around your feet. BUFF: +40 Poison Resist
Crown of Feathers Nimbus		Marketplace Prize: Crown of Lightning	A feather will fade in / out on different sides of your head. BUFF: +10 Metabolism (reduction to Food / Drink consumption).
Crown of Fire Nimbus		Marketplace Prize: Crown of Fire Nimbus	This Nimbus causes flames to erupt from different sides of the top of your head. BUFF: +40 to Fire Based Spell Damage.
Crown of Icicles		Marketplace	Crown yourself in ice.
Crown of Lightning		Marketplace Prize: Crown of Lightning	Crowns you with lightning. BUFF: +40 to Magic Resist Spell.
Crown of Roses Nimbus		Marketplace	This Nimbus is a halo of Blue Roses that rotate around your head.
Crystalline Shield Nimbus		Marketplace Prize: Crystalline Shield Nimbus	A ghostly barrier pulses in and out of view around you. BUFF: Mitigate 1% of Spell Damage (max 100 -- it can be "shattered" in combat).
Death an Decay Nimbus		Marketplace Prize: Death and Decay Nimbus	Smoky vapors rise upwards from your right hand while a smoky vapor falls downwards from you left hand, along with an occasional tiny bone mixed in. BUFF: +40 Disease Spell Damage
Dreamcatcher Nimbus		Marketplace	A Dreamcatcher will appear above your head during the spell cast, but then it fades away and never seems to come back into view (the buff remains, however). BUFF: +2 Mana Regeneration (It may not stack with certain other buffs, like Mount Blessing Kala).
Ever-Growing Crystal		Marketplace	Blue and red rotating crystals fade in and out around your feet.
Evidence of the Party		Marketplace	Tiny bubbles emanate from the top of your head.
Fae Spirit Nimbus		Marketplace	A tiny 'Fae Spirit' will sit on your shoulder. "A Companion spirit joins you."
Fireworks Nimbus		Marketplace	Multi-colored of fireworks explode above / around you.
Frozen Crystal Shard		Marketplace	A dark cloud appears over your head and snow flakes drop down around you. (Not to be confused with the item of the same name, below.)
Frozen Crystal Shard		Promotion	This item can be traded out for the Frozen Crystal Shard (see above) with Bertrand Bibblesworth in the Plane of Knowledge. Gears of Plenty		Marketplace	A gear-shaped target ring fades in and out around your feet while gears drop from your hands.
Hand of Stone		Marketplace	This Nimbus is a repeating cycle of your hands becoming encased in stone and them crumbling away.
Handful of Mud		Marketplace	Dusty clouds emanate at your feet and around your hands.

Love's Expression		Achievement or Marketplace	This will activate a one-time effect of hearts shooting our from your chest. Achievement: Erollisi Day
Mistletoe		Marketplace	Mistletoe appears above your head.
Nightmare Nimbus		Marketplace	A nightmarish face fades in and out around your head. BUFF: +40 Magic Resist.
Nimbus of Burning Steps		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Burning Steps	Fire emanates from your feet. When you run you will leave the occasional fiery footprint behind (that fades soon after).
Nimbus of Daylight		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Daylight	Yellowish rays of light emanate skyward from your shoulders.
Nimbus of Discordant Chains		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Discordant Chains	Spiky chains whirl around your body.
Nimbus of Discordant Energy		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Discordant Energy	Red lightning emanates from your hands, arms and shoulders.
Nimbus of Discordant Souls		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Discordant Souls	Bladed balls swirl around you.
Nimbus of Discordant Spines		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Discordant Spines	Spikes, impaled through your body, appear and drip blood.
Nimbus of Dust Storm		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Dust Storm	Clouds of dust swirl around you.
Nimbus of Fire and Ice		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Fire and Ice	Fire emanates from you right hand and rises upwards, while an icy cloud emanates from your left hand and and falls towards the ground. BUFF: +30 Cold Resists, +30 Fire Resist
Nimbus of Frost		Marketplace	An icy cloud swirls around you, with occasional snowflakes. BUFF: +10 Damage Shield
Nimbus of Growth		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Growth	Leaves emanate from near your head and swirl around you towards the ground.
Nimbus of Holly		Marketplace	Red & Green Holly Berries, along with sprigs of Holly, swirl around you. BUFF: +25 Charisma
Nimbus of Jack		Marketplace	A ghostly pumpkin head appears and rotates around you. There are two (2) different items (different item numbers), of this same name, that appear to be exactly alike.
Nimbus of Lava		Marketplace	Lava drips from your hands and splashes around your feet.
Nimbus of Mata Muram		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Mata Muram	A cycle of ghostly crosses appear and fade around you.
Nimbus of Midnight		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Midnight	Purplish rays of light emanate skyward from your shoulders.
Nimbus of Runes		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Runes	Symbols appear and swirl around you.
Nimbus of Rushing Water		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of Rushing Water	A wave of water swirls around you.
Nimbus of the Air Queen		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Air Queen	Shards of light swirl around you as puffy clouds billow at your feet.
Nimbus of the Belfry		Marketplace	Ghostly bats fly around you.
Nimbus of the Burning Prince		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Burning Prince	Flames and sparks swirl around you, as balls of fire bubble up at your feet.
Nimbus of the Burning Pyrilen		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Burning Pyrilen	Flames emanate from your hands and rise towards the sky.
Nimbus of the Confused		Marketplace	A yellow and a blue star swirl around your head.
Nimbus of the Crystal Gelidran		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Crystal Gelidran	Blue crystals circle around your feet and hands.
Nimbus of the Dazed		Marketplace	Two little green birds circle your head.
Nimbus of the Dead		Legends of Norrath	Your feet are surrounded by a black mist with skeletal hands reaching up out of it. This Nimbus was originally acquired from the Legends of Norrath (LoN) card game. It was part of the July 2009 "Forest Giant Tournament Pack." There does not appear to be a tradeable "Prize" version from any of the Marketplace LoN packs. Thus, it does not appear that it is currently possible to acquire this item.
Nimbus of the Faceless		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Faceless	Sooty smoke circles your feet, while sooty smoke also emanates from your torso and rises upwards.
Nimbus of the Frozen Gelidran		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Frozen Gelidran	Frozen mist drops from your hands and cloud up around your feet.
Nimbus of the Gambler		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Gambler	Playing cards emanate from your hands and drop towards the ground.
Nimbus of the Green Thumb		Marketplace	Your hands intermittently glow green and small leaves fall from them.
Nimbus of the Howling Wind		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Howling Wind	Swirls of wind rotate around you.
Nimbus of the Inquisition		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Inquisition	Symbols swirl around your hands, while the same symbol appears on the ground under your feet.
Nimbus of the Jester		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Jester	A jester symbol swirls around your waist, while gold and silver coins swirl around your feet.
Nimbus of the Lit Way		Marketplace	Unlit ghostly candles rotate around your head. BUFF: Ultravision
Nimbus of the Lover		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Lover	Pinkish hearts appear from near your feet and float towards the sky as they swirl around you.
Nimbus of the Molten Pyrilen		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Molten Pyrilen	Red crystals circle around your feet and hands.
Nimbus of the Ocean		??	Wisps of water vapor emanate around you, while a cloud of water vapor circles your feet. BUFF: Enduring Breath
Nimbus of the Ocean Lord		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Ocean Lord	Water surrounds you and drips from your hands.
Nimbus of the Plaguebringer		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Plaguebringer	Flies buzz around you while green clouds emanate from your hands and billow around your feet.
Nimbus of the Rain Keeper		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Rain Keeper	A white cloud hangs over your head as drops of rain fall down around you.
Nimbus of the Riftseeker		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Riftseeker	Colorful clouds rise upwards from your shoulders, while red and blue crystals rotate around your hands and roil around your feet.
Nimbus of the Rumbling Earth		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Rumbling Earth	Squarish rocks and balls of dust surround your feet.
Nimbus of the Storm Lord		Legends of Norrath	Little puffy clouds move around you as lightning crackles from your hands and torso. This Nimbus was originally acquired from the Legends of Norrath (LoN) card game. There does NOT appear to be a tradeable "Prize" version from any of the Marketplace LoN packs. Thus, it does not appear that it is currently possible to acquire this item.
Nimbus of the Tempest		Marketplace	"A tempest forms around you." BUFF: +4 Damage Shield
Nimbus of the Tranquil		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Tranquil	A cycle of ghostly crosses appear and fade around you, as the same symbol rotates around your hands.
Nimbus of the Two		Marketplace	A tiny awiak flies around your head. This Nimbus is needed for the Achievement: Twelve Days of Frostfell.
Nimbus of the Void		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Tranquil	A bluish / purple-ish vapor rises from your hands.
Nimbus of the Wisp		Marketplace Prize: Nimbus of the Wisp	Spinning "wisps" fly around your legs and feet.
Old Metal Button		Marketplace	A dark cloud hangs over your head and lightning strikes the ground around you.
Pale Grey Gloves		Quest	This item is acquired from the 13th Anniversary Task, "Improper Boating Attire," from Sam Napth in the Plane of Knowledge, when active. This item has 50 Charges.
Party Popper Nimbus		Marketplace	Confetti falls all around you. BUFF / ALTERNATIVE ADVANCEMENT: This items says it will unlock "a passive alternate advancement ability that will increase the chance your dodge skill will succeed by 5%" This seems to match the "Item: Myrmidon's Skill" AA, except the levels of that AA do not have a 5% level (it goes from 4% to 6%, as best as I can tell). Otherwise, no AA seems to be granted.
Path of Fire Decay		Marketplace Prize: Path of Decay Nimbus	Your very path decays. BUFF: +50 Disease Resist
Path of Fire Nimbus		Marketplace Prize: Path of Fire Nimbus	Fire will appear around your feet and you will leave behind temporary fiery steps as you run. BUFF: +40 Fire Spell Damage
Path of Ice Nimbus		Marketplace Prize: Path of Fire Nimbus (there appears to be two versions of this same Prize item)	Icy squares will appear under your feet, and leave a temporary icy path as you run. BUFF: +40 Cold Spell Damage
Path of Skulls		Marketplace Prize: Path of Skulls Pack	Creates a path of skulls for the caster to walk on.

Rose Petal Nimbus		Marketplace	Rose petals fall around you from the sky. BUFF / ALTERNATIVE ADVANCEMENT: This items says it will unlock "a passive alternate advancement ability that will increase the chance your dodge skill will succeed by 1%" This matches the description for the first level of the "Item: Myrmidon's Skill" AA (which is also a level of the AA), so it would seem this is the AA you get.
Share the Love Nimbus		Marketplace	Hearts spin around your head, turn into sparkles and then fall to the ground. Buff: +10 Charisma
Share the Pain Nimbus		Marketplace (It appears this item may only be sold as part of the Erollisi Day Nimbus Package.)	?? Buff: +10 Charisma NOTE: The nimbus effect pretty much looks exactly like the Broken Heart Nimbus (see above).
Solstice Nimbus		Marketplace	Autumn leaves fall and a phasing moon rises above you.
Spinefist Nimbus		Marketplace	Spike grow and regrow around your hands.
Token of the Light Army		Marketplace	Bluish balls of light emanate around your hands and feet.
Token of the Obliteration Army		Marketplace	Red clouds of light emanate around your hands and feet.
Tread of the Mountain Walker		Marketplace	Mountains rise from the users tread.
Tunare Party Popper		Marketplace	"Releases a stream of confetti." It appears this item may only be sold as part of the New Years Party Pack.

Wedding Band		Marketplace	This item originates from either the Light Wedding Chapel Pack or the Dark Wedding Chapel Pack, sold in the Marketplace.
