EVERQUEST "HOW TO" & "CHEATS"

You may hear a lot of folks talk about "cheats" and "secrets" and secret "how to" methods for playing EQ.

I say they are full of smug idiocy and I am here to reveal their deceit!

Topics below are not in any certain order and are addressed in the form of topical questions. If you have a question that would fit this page (and perhaps the answer as well), please let me know!

If you don't find what you are looking for on this page, try my Paladin Q&A and my "Secrets" pages, as well.

EQ is riddled with spammers these days selling plat and game secrets! Are they for real?

Well, yes and no... but first let me make it clear, this is a EQ RULES VIOLATION! DON'T RISK IT!

I do not use, condone or promote the use of such things. I am merely answering a question.

They will in fact allow you to buy in game Platinum for real life cash. This is accomplished via "buying" an amount of Platinum via a web site and paying for it with a credit card or similar.

They then promise to meet you in game and hand over the Platinum. They do this directly toon-to-toon (trade window), or "buy" something like an Iron Ration from your mule for 100K... or however you desire to set up the exchange.

The risks are that they don't come through (they scam you) and/or Sony suspends/bans your account.

As far as the so-called secrets they promise to reveal... this is pretty much pure scam, but not necessarily a Rules violation.

Everything they promise is generally valid (thus no violation), but they word it in such a way as to make it sound like they are going to reveal huge secret knowledge to you.

The truth is, they are merely using hyped-up con-man politician-type rhetoric to sell information that you can get on most any EQ Web Site, EQ Guide and even the in-game petition/help guides.

My suggestion is to /report (spammer name) every time you get spammed.

Unfortunately, it appears most such spamming takes place in the Bazaar. You can only report one player and then you have to zone to report another. This is pretty inconvenient, as most Bazaar mules risk being so encumbered, they might not be able to move to zone back in.

Examples (along with the "secret" revealed"):

What is a MACRO and how do you use it?

Again, let me make it clear, the MACRO (as suggested by the question), is a EQ RULES VIOLATION! DON'T RISK IT!

I do not use, condone or promote the use of such things. I am merely answering a question.

Macro's are a set of keyboard strokes/commands that are attached to a single key on your keyboard. Hitting that key, will then execute that series of commands.

It is a bit more complicated than that, but you get the idea.

EQ does allow some in-game Macros -- aka Hot Keys (keyboard keys), that you set up via the "Options" menu in EQ.

There are also EQ Macros that essentially, once set up, allow a EQ Player to start it up and everything will essentially run automatically. You can go sleep or whatever.

Many, if not most, of the EQ "helper" programs are in fact Macro-type programs (and thus, can get you banned from EQ).

EQ does now have built-in "detection" methods for such programs. Do not risk it!

This is how many people farm items, farm XP, forage items and even farm Platinum (such as the spam Plat Sellers).

To do much of this successfully, also requires multi-boxing (multiple accounts), of up to six (6) toons (tank, healer, slower, buffer, DPS...).

So -- if you ever see a group that doesn't respond to tells but seems amazingly attentive to MOB spawns... this is not a group of snooty folks! It's a macro group. Feel free to /report and /petition them.

Then again, training them might be more fun (snicker).

It seems like some food and drink last longer than other food/drink? Is this the case?

As a matter of fact, yes!

When you look at a food/drink, you will see it described in different ways.

As best I can tell, the food/drink lasts longer, in the order noted below (based on the in-game description of the item):

So... other than the AA's that help you consume less, keeping the better food/drink on hand can also reduce your consumption.

Is there a way to block summoned items spells?

Yes, there is, but use it wisely. You don't want to block items you may want or need in the future.

This is not the same as blocking buffs, which is a simple in game option through the EQ button or by right clicking the buff icon and clicking the right pop-up choice.

Blocking actual items cast up via spells, however, is a bit trickier.

Example, you can block those mage mana rods, the poisoned Jester food and drink, player summoned food and drink and so forth.

So, if you don't like, nor want, such items suddenly appearing on your cursor, block them!

Here is how you do it.

First off, go to Lucy and look up the summoned item you want to block.

Lets say you wish to block the summoned black bread.

You do a search... but you search for the spell, not the item. In this case, searching for "food" will find two of them for you.

Click one of the links and then look up in the URL window.

In this case, you might see: http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=50&source=Live

The number by the "ID=" is what you are looking for. In this case, the number is 50.

Now, to block it, you need your character logged in and type the following command:

/blockspell add me 50

This will forever block the summoned black bread (from that particular spell) from landing on you.

To block all versions of this spell, you need to block each one.

One of the best blocks you can set up is for the poisoned Bristlebane's Bread and poisoned Bristlebane's Wine that Jesters can cast up. To block them both, type this command:

/blockspell add me 6893 6895

Note that a space is used between codes, to block multiple items with one command.

Some spells are tricky to look up, especially if you don't know the name of the spell or if it is a NPC only spell. In such cases, look up the item, then click the "Raw" link. On that page, you should see a "Spell ID" category. Use that number.

However, be sure to check that number first!

This is done via using the same URL as above, but just changing the number. If the the URL takes you to a web page that spell shows up on, go ahead use it!

If no spell comes up or the wrong spell comes up, it may be a good idea not to use it.

My list of recommended blocks are:

How exactly do you use "Audio Triggers" and why bother?

I have a page detailing these, that should answer this question.
