This is the first part, in a way, of the new Paladin epic introduced with the Omens of War expansion!
You do not need the original epic in order to quest the new Epic (aka 2.0).
However, this quest is only necessary if you do not have your first epic (Fiery Defender) (aka 1.0)!
This sword is a substitute for the Fiery Defender (some call it the "new" Epic 1.0, which I refuse to do!).
If you have the Fiery Defender, you can and should skip this quest all together!
COURAGEBRINGER: Magic: Lore; No Drop; 2 Hand Slash; All/All; Weight 3.5.
STATUS: Confirmed (indirectly)!
1) PLANE OF VALOR: Baltron Werters (Level 66) inside the back part of the "castle," standing in formation with a few other NPC's.
Hail him and say, "Couragebringer” (or you can just follow along with the story).
He will give you Baltron's Solvent (Magic, Lore, No Drop, Weight 0.1) and tell you to go see Gilfal (Level 65).
2) SOUTHERN DESERT OF RO: Gilfal is in the area of n348 n2440.
!!!NOTE!!!: Make sure you have a container slot free!
Hail him and follow along (say, "I am willing to help you rebuild Couragebringer."), or just give him Baltron's Solvent.
He will give Baltron's Solvent back to you along with Gilfal's Scabbard (Lore, Magic, No Drop, Weight 2.0, 6-slot large container, 0% Weight Reduction).
This is on the "beach," about halfway up the left side under a small boat hull.
There is a ground spawn here, namely the Rune of Wilun (Lore, Magic, No Drop, Weight 1.0).
This is inside the arena ruins on the stage area.
There is a ground spawn here, namely the Rune of Zota (Lore, Magic, No Drop, Weight 1.0).
There is a ground spawn here, namely the Rune of Yirno (Lore, Magic, No Drop, Weight 1.0).
It is near the building in the graveyard.
NOTE: This item was moved from its original location in
6) PLANE OF TRANQUILITY: Head to the area of n566 p222, under the water.
This is in the cave, off the right side of the bridge towards the Plane of Storms.
There is a ground spawn here, namely the Rune of Xor (Lore, Magic, No Drop, Weight 1.0).
"Your sword piece reverberates with a low hum. An attraction is felt within it. To the fork of the river you are pointed, towards the source of that attraction."
However, it has been tested and you can do this step out of order, as it is not a battle encounter.
You are looking for an NPC named Rombus (Level 65 to 66) (respawn time is 1 hour) at the Wayfarer's Camp.
Hail him and follow along, or just try saying, "Four runes," or just give him the four (4) runes.
He will give you a Broken Sword Piece (Magic, Lore, No Drop, Weight 1.2) that identifies as the "right part of the blade."
8) PLANE OF STORMS: This is a raid encounter with an "avatar of war," or "AoW" as many call them. It is possible to solo this event, these days.
You need to find and kill Neffiken, Lord of Kelek'Vor (Level 70). He is in the forest area, in the fort there (if he is up).
He is can only be targeted after killing all the other giants in the forest-fort area.
He casts a single target 1,500 mana / stamina drain on the tank, quads for as much as 1.5K and rampages. He also casts up a number (about 10) of small trees (A Small Ent) to help him.
He drops a Broken Sword Piece (Magic, Lore, No Drop, Weight 1.2) that identifies as the "left part of the handle."
9) PLANE OF TORMENT: When you zone in, after accomplishing Step 8, you should get the message:
"Your sword piece reverberates with a low hum. An attraction is felt within it. To the south you are pointed, towards the direction of that attraction."
You are looking for a Kaniz Painbringer (Level 70) in the area of n1075 p900 (basically, the far side of the zone, if he is up). He can definitely be soloed at level 75 (with no mercenary).
He drops a Broken Sword Piece (Magic, Lore, No Drop, Weight 1.2) that identifies as the "left part of the blade."
10) PLANE OF HATE: This is a raid encounter, but a decent Level 80 group can do this. It is soloable these days.
You need to find and kill Maestro of Rancor (Level 75). He can hit for up to 2K and Harm Touch for 1.5K.
It is important to keep him on the stage facing the giant organ, in the back left corner (to avoid adds). A tank will need to stay on him and keep him there at all times.
All most immediately, three (3) A Silent Banshee (Level 63) will position on the three (3) opposite walls (it is a big room). However, they will not be targetable until later, so ignore them for now.
At 75% health, two (2) An Accompanist (Level 60) spawn at the organ. When this happens, Maestro's regen rate goes way up! So kill the An Accompanist, to prevent this.
At about 40% health, the three (3) A Silent Banshee (Level 63) will become targetable. Kill them.
At 25% health, three (3) A Wailing Banshee (Level 63) and/or A Moaning Banshee (Level 63) will spawn. You need to kill them as soon as possible and then, you can finish off Maestro.
He drops a Broken Sword Piece (Magic, Lore, No Drop, Weight 1.2) that identifies as the "right part of the handle."
11) Place the Baltron's Solvent, the four (4) Broken Sword Piece in Gilfal's Scabbard and combine them to get the Fractured Couragebringer (Lore, Magic, No Drop, Weight 3.0).
12) SOUTHERN DESERT OF RO: Head back to Gilfal.
Give him the Fractured Couragebringer and he will give you back a different version of Fractured Couragebringer.
13) PLANE OF VALOR: Head back to Baltron Werters and give him the Fractured Couragebringer (from Gilfal).
After a moment and some pomp and circumstance, he will summon the Avatar of Rathalzor (Level 80), have him bless the sword and then give you the completed Couragebringer!
NOTE: This may take a minute, so be patient!
