With the addition of the Familiars Key Ring, have you ever wondered just how many Familiars there might be? Or, perhaps, how to get them to start with?

Well, this page is about just that!

Many familiars can be equipped (usually the ammo slot), but they generally have no stats.
If you collect familiars and run out of space on your Familiar Key Ring, you can always add more slots by purchasing them via the Marketplace (currently 250 maximum).
UPDATE: In early 2023, the key ring maximum was updated to 350 Slots.
Unless otherwise stated, all Familiars can go onto your Familiar Key Ring.
At the bottom of your Familiar Key Ring window, there is a box. If you put a Familiar in that box, you will always get the buff provided by that familiar (if any)... no matter which familiar you use for the "look." In short, it combines the "look" of any familiar you have, with the buff of the familiar you put in the noted box.
There is also a box labeled "Auto Leave." If you check that box, the familiar will not appear and follow you around... BUT you will still get any buff it may provide ("hiding" a familiar can help reduce lag).
Speaking of buffs, not all familiars provide buffs, but those that do add two buff icons in your buff window... one for the familiar itself and one for the actual buff. The actual buffs can often stack with each other, so long as they don't overwrite or block each other. You may want to experiment with familiar buffs that you might want to stack / utilize (be sure the "Leave" option is selected as noted above, to be sure one familiar does not block another).
Additionally, many Familiars might also be pet illusions, such as the "Metamorph" items. These items will change your pet to look like the illusion, or summon a familiar, instead (or both).
Most familiars seem to originate from the Marketplace. Some are sold as stand-alone illusions, while others are random awards from things like Heritage Crate, Bird in a Cage, Cat in a Bag, Gnoll in a Barrel, Dog in a Crate, Legends of Norrath items and similar. These randomly awarded illusions are initially tradeable "Wrapped" or Adoptable" or "Prize" items, meaning you can acquire them from other players and then convert them into the actual no Trade item.

Marketplace items may not be available year-round.

If you look on you alternative currency tab, you should see a currency called "Adoption Coin." These coins are obtained from, and spent with, "Lynea the pet collector." Lynea is located in the cave / tunnel in the Commonlands. If you get duplicate Adoptable pets from the Marketplace, you can sell them to her for (1) Adoption Coin each (the tradable adoptable version, that is). She will also sell you a "Random Pet in a Box" for (10) Adoption Coins, which can randomly award you another Adoptable familiar (you do not get to pick). While Lynea is an additional way you might obtain the familiar you need, you are basically trading in 10 Familiars for a chance at (1) Familiar (you may NOT get one that you wanted)! It may be better to simply barter your extra's with other players, in an effort to acquire the one(s) you need.

NOTE: The "benefits" listed below are the maximum known benefits. These benefits may be less at lower levels, have reduced effects at higher levels, or even fully blocked / overwritten by other buffs you may all ready have on you.
