VEX THAL KEY

This is a somewhat difficult and involved quest that gains you entry into the Zone called Vex Thal.

In order to accomplish this quest -- you should have all ready completed the Ring of the Shissar (Emperor's Key) quest, as you will definitely have to do it before Step 8.

This item is soulbound, so after one use you should see it on your key ring. If so, you can destroy it afterwards.

UPDATE: In 2008 Sony decided to allow access to this zone by merit of level (Level 55).

THE SCEPTER OF SHADOWS: Lore, No Drop, Weight 0.1

.

STATUS: Completed and confirmed!

.

QUEST

1) You need to obtain an Essence Emerald (Weight 0.1).

These are created/summoned by Necromancers by way of a "sacrifice" of a player character that is at least Level 45. It is a Level 51 spell. Yes -- the player is killed and they do loose experience. This item is also the component used for the Necromancer version of resurrection.

Either you can obtain the services of a Necromancer to sacrifice you and gain you this item -- or you can buy one. They are often on sale in Bazaar for around 300 platinum.

.

2) Time for long camping trips! You first need to obtain 9 different Lucid Shards. They are all called A Lucid Shard (Lore, No Drop, Weight 0.1), but they all identify differently, as noted below:

I) Identifies as: DAT -- Drops in Fungus Grove off of Shik`nar Royal Guard (Level 63) or a Shik`nar Warrior (Level 60). These are tough MOB's and you will need at least a healer, slower and tank help (over Level 60 group). They can be found in the Shik'nar caves near the Twilight Sea portal and it was my experience that one dropped per cycle;

II) Identifies as: KEL -- Drops in The Grey off of A Stone Beast (Level 51 to 52) or a A Sun Revenant (Level 55). The Sun Revenants are skeletons and are your best bet. Take a healer and head to the NW corner of the zone, along the wall. They are standing around a small pond and can easily be single pulled. You can run near rocks in the area to set off traps that spawn rock MOB's that may sometime drop them, as well;

III) Identifies as: KELERA -- Drops in Katta Kastellum off of most of the Centurions (Levels 50 to 54); or in Sanctus Seru off of A Legionnaire of the Hand (Level 44 to 55), An Intervallum Guard (Level 55) or Legionnaire Durus (Level 49 to 52).

This one seems a pretty common drop and can be easily obtained near the zone line in Sanctus Seru, which is where I got mine;

IV) Identifies as: LOR -- Drops in Dawnshroud Peaks off of A Rockhopper (Level: 37 to 45) or A Rockhopper Ravager (Level 39 to 40). These seem to be relatively rare drops and you will need at least a healer to help you; I believe they also drop off A Sambata Gatherer (Level 40), if the Greyhoppers aren't up;

V) Identifies as: RAF -- Drops in The Deep off of MOB's that have "Horror" in their name (Levels 53 to 62). You will need to cross the invisible bridge and go to the far left (or right) to find the MOB's you need. Take a healer and some DPS and this should be pretty safe (over Level 60 group);

VI) Identifies as: SET -- Drops in The Scarlet Desert off of A Sun Reaver (Level 39 to 44) or a A Sun Revenant (Level 39 to 42); Using pacify and your undead spells -- you can solo this camp, if you are over Level 60. Just make sure you have KEI up. From the Twilight Sea, zone into the Scarlet Desert. Go up the hill to the right and then veer left into the desert to find the plateau. Go up on top of the plateau and set up camp there;

VII) Identifies as: VED -- Drops in Acrylia Caverns off of A Grimling Deathguard (Level 60), A Grimling Prison Guard (Level 54 to 56) or a Sanctum Bloodguard (Level 55): Drops aren't that regular, but neither are they rare; I recommend a group with a mezzer, slower and healer (all over Level 60); These MOB's are located in the secret area that you click into (basically straight in, right, left, left, right and click monument);

VIII) Identifies as: TAK -- Drops in Maiden's Eye off of various Goranga's (Levels 53 to 58); Kill the "Scouts" as they are place holders for "named" that drop the shards; Set up camp left (if looking at the building) of the Akheva Ruins zone line on the grassy hillside. Goranga spawn at a rock straight ahead of you and over the hill to your left (if looking at zone wall);

.

3) You need to obtain a Summoned: Wisp Stone (Lore, Magic, No Rent, Weight 0.1). This item is obtained by obtaining the services of a Magician, as it is a Mage summoned item. It is a Level 4 spell. Don't get this item until you are ready to complete the next step, as it is No Rent and it will disappear if you camp before using it. I found a Mage selling one in Bazaar.

.

4) AKHEVA RUINS: NOTE: Make sure you have a bag slot open before attempting the next few steps.

Make sure you have a container slot open and head to what is commonly called the "sacrificial pit" -- because it is where you will find Sacrificed Remains (Level 1)

You need to kill the Sacrificed Remains until you spawn A Shimmering Presence -- who is invisible (like a Shadowman) save for the name (Level 50).

.

5) You can now hail A Shimmering Presence and follow the text, or you can just give the Summoned: Wisp Stone to it. It will then despawn and The Spirit of Akelha'Ra (Level 65) will appear.

.

6) You can now hail The Spirit of Akelha'Ra and follow the text, or you can just give The Spirit of Akelha'Ra the Essence Emerald.

He will give you the Shadowed Scepter Frame (Lore, No Drop, Weight 0.5, 10-slot, Tiny, 0% Weight reduction).

Some say it is left lying on the ground. This is not true, it will appear in your inventory.

NOTE: Be prepared for aggro and / or clearing the area.

.

7) While you are here, there is  also A Lucid Shard (identifies as Dax) to obtain in this zone. It drops off of A Rubble Rouser (Level 58), A Shade Golem (Level 56), A Shadow Reaver (Level 53 to 58) or a Shaded Stones (Level 50). You can find them straight into the zone in the second opening.

.

8) Now it gets tougher. You need to obtain A Glowing Orb of Luclinite (Lore, No Drop, Weight 0.1). It drops off various high end named boss MOB's (Level 63 to 66) in The Deep, Ssraeshza Temple, Katta Castellum, Grieg's End, Akheva Ruins and other Luclin zones (named "boss" MOB's).

.

9) SSRAESHZA TEMPLE: A Lucid Shard drops here off of the various Skeleton MOB's (Level 49 to 55), down on the bottom level in the mine area.

While you are there, you may want to try for a Strange Green Metal (No Drop, Weight 5.0), as it is needed to make Shissar Bane weapons and only drops here (see Step 8).

'

10) While you are here, you also need to obtain A Planes Rift (Lore, No Drop, Weight 0.1) that drops off A Shissar Wraith (Level 60).

These MOB's only spawn after Emperor Ssraeshza (Level 66) has been killed, who can only be harmed by magic and Shissar Bane weapons.

More than one MOB spawns and each drops more than one A Planes Rift.

This is a Raid encounter and you must have all ready completed the quest for the "Emp Key" (Ring of the Shissar) in order to complete this step (you can't get in without your own key).

The best way to win this battle, is to first kill the Blood of Ssraeshza (Level 63) in order to make the Emperor targetable. You will also need a raid with enough high level characters teams of off-tanks and Enchanters to "crowd control" all  the other MOB's in the room for the long fight to kill the Emperor.

.

11) Now place all 10 of the A Lucid Shard in the Shadowed Scepter Frame and combine them. This will create the Unadorned Scepter of Shadows (Lore, No Drop, Weight 0.5, 2-Slot, Small, 0% Weight Reduction).

.

12) Now put A Planes Rift and A Glowing Orb of Luclinite in the Unadorned Scepter of Shadows and combine it to make The Scepter of Shadows!
