BLESSED COLDAIN PRAYER SHAWL QUEST(S)

This is a series of eight (8) quests, individually known by the name of the shawl that you get at the end.

This is the combined series of quests, to make it easier in the long run.

In this guide I have “mixed” the quests up, in a way. Basically, as these are quests and not tasks, you can accomplish many things “out of order.”
The below sequence can save you a lot of time, effort and running about. The biggest set back to this approach, is the need for a lot of bag space in the early going.
If bag space becomes an issue, I have tossed in references to help you jump back and forth in steps, if you need to.

This task series is very much tradeskill related. It will involve all of your tradeskills. The trivials are as high as of 208, so work on those skills! However, if your tradeskills aren’t up to par, some of the combines can be accomplished for you by other players (quite a few are No Trade items, however).

NOTE: If you fail any combines that involve quest-awarded items, you should get those items back. If you do not get them back, they should be recoverable from the NPC that gave it to you to start with, you by simply repeating the key phrase or handing in the key item again (such as the shawl).

FARMING

1) This quest series requires the acquisition of quite a bit of raw materials and task items, most of which are used in trade skill combines.

Many of these items are tradable, so you may be able to save yourself a lot of time, albeit with a potential crunch to your bank account, by seeking to buy what you need from other players (Bazaar).

However, many items are No Trade and you will have to acquire them on your own.

The following “farming” list is organized by zone, to save a lot of running about. Be sure to take as many empty bags as you can!

NOTE!! The number of items listed are the number of items you will need if you have no (zero!) failures with the combines! You may want to farm up extra!

NOTE!! Take along some type of fishing pole and some bait (for Iceclad)!

·         THE GREAT DIVIDE

o       (5)  Glowing Worm Bile (Magic, No Trade, Weight 1.0); This item drops off the various “Wurms” (Level 28 to 40) in and south of the river caves (center of the zone). They are relatively rare. It took me about two rounds of mass slaughter for each one. They do not stack and are used one (1) at a time in later combines, for the 5th shawl (see Step 22);

o       (2) Drakkel Wolf Whiskers (Magic, No Trade, Weight 0.1); This item drops from A Drakkel Dire Wolf (Level 29 to 35), found mostly in the center/east of the zone. They do not stack and are both used in a single combine for the 6th shawl (see Step 2).

·         VELKETOR’S LABYRINTH

o       (3) Crystalline Silk (Magic, Weight 0.0); This item drops off the various crystal spider MOB’s (Level 30 to 34) and stacks to 20. At the very top of the ramps is the best place to find lots of spiders. All three of these are used in a single combine (see Step 2);

o       (75) Crystalline Silk Thread (Magic No Trade, Weight 0.1); You read that right, you need 75 of these! They stack to 20. They also drop off the same crystal spider MOB’s as the above item. They are used five (5) at a time in later combines (see Step 2);

o       (4) Small Piece of Velium (Weight 0.5); See below for drop info. These stack to 20. This item is used in later combines (see Step 2, 18, 33 & 35);

o       (2) Small Brick of Velium (Weight 7.0); See below for drop info. These stack to 20. This item is used in later combines (see Step 2);

o       (4) Large Brick of Velium (Weight 14.0); See below for drop info. These stack to 10. This item is used for the 8th Shawl (see Step 41);

o       (15) Block of Velium (Weight 18.0); These stack to 5. This item is used one (1) at a time in later combines, for the 8th Shawl (see Step 41);

o       NOTE: Velium drops off the golem and gargoyle models (Level 40 to 45) in this zone. The best place to farm them is up in the castle or fort area. While you can see this area from the upper spider camp (noted above), you can’t get in from there. From the upper spider area, go down about one level and then go through the secret wall to the circular pit area. Go out on the broken bridge and jump across to the other part of the broken bridge. Then go around the ramp back up and then cautiously (it’s slippery) make your way across the upper crooked bridge, through the secret door there. Past the kobolds is a tunnel leading into the castle/fort area. The larger the size of the Velium, the less often it seems to drop. Rather than spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get the exact number of each brick size, use a little math to make it easier. Three (3) of any size brick can be used to make one brick (1) of the next size up (pieces to small to large to block).

·         EASTERN WASTES

o       (2) Manticore Mane (Weight 1.0); These stack to 20. These drop off A Manticore (Level 36 to 43) found sparingly about the zone. Both are used in a single combine for the 6th shawl (see Step 2);

o       (1) Ulthork Tusks (Weight 2.0); This item does not stack. It drops off he various Ulthorks (Level 40 to 66), best found in the upper center of the zone. It is used in a combine for the 7th shawl (see Step 2);

o       (2) Ulthork Meat (Weight 1.0); These drop off the same MOB’s as noted above. They are both used in a combine for the 3rd shawl (see Step 2);

o       (1) Woven Frost Giant Beard (Magic, Lore, Weight 1.0, AC 5, 5 charges of Storm Strength); This is a lore item. This item drops off the various Giants (Level 34 to 45), best located in the west and north parts of the zone. It is used in a combine for the 6th shawl (see Step 2);

o       (4) Frost Giant Toes (Weight 2.0); These do not stack. These drop off the various Giants (Level 34 to 45), best located in the west and north parts of the zone. They are used for a turn in for the 1st shawl (see Step 4);

o       (10) Kromrif Head (Weight 2.0); These do not stack. These drop off the various Giants (Level 34 to 45), best located in the west and north parts of the zone. They are all used in a combine for the 2nd shawl (see Step 6);

o       (1) Tundra Kodiak Meat (Weight 1.0); This item does not stack. This drops off A Tundra Kodiak (Level 27 to 34), best found in the mid-west part of the zone. It is used in a combine for the 3rd shawl (see Step 2);

o       (2) Frost Bunny Meat (Weight 1.0); These stack to 20. These drop off A Snow Bunny (Level 2 to 3), located somewhat sparingly about the zone. They are both used in a combine for the 3rd shawl (see Step 2);

o       (4) Snow Griffin Egg (No Trade, Magic, Weight 1.0); These stack to 20. These are somewhat uncommon drops from the various Griffins (Level 36 to 45). Griffins are sparingly located in the same area as the Kodiaks. Killing every MOB in the immediate area can aide in spawning them more often. All four are used in a combine for the 3rd shawl (see Step 2).

·         KAEL DRAKKEL

o       Royal Kromrif Blood (Lore, Weight 0.1); This is a lore item. This item drops off of Klaggan Iceshard (Level 48) or Vorken Iceshard (Level 47) in the throne room. It is used in a later combine for the 7th shawl (see Step 33).

·         WAKENING LANDS

o       (2)Unrefined Diamond (Magic, No Trade, Weight 0.1); This item will stack to 20. They drop off of A Shimmering Geonid (Level 45), found in the caves to the south. These are used one at a time in combines for the 8th shawl (see Step 41);

o       (3)Unrefined Emerald (Magic, No Trade, Weight 0.1); This item will stack to 20. These drop off the same MOB’s as noted above. These are used one at a time in combines for the 8th shawl (see Step 41);

o       (3)Unrefined Sapphire (Magic, No Trade, Weight 0.1); This item will stack to 20. These drop off the same MOB’s as noted above. These are used one at a time in combines for the 8th shawl (see Step 41).

·         ICECLAD OCEAN

o       (3) Iceclad Cutlassfish (Weight 1.0); This item stacks to 20. This item is fished up (anywhere), so I hope you remembered to bring a pole and bait! All three are used in a combine for the 7th shawl (see Step 32).

·         COBALT SCAR

o       (2) Siren Hair (No Trade, Magic, Weight 0.1); These drop off the various Sirens (Level 34 to 45) best found in and around the water below the entrance to the Skyshrine. They are somewhat rare and do not seem to drop at all in Siren’s Grotto, as indicated on some web sites. Do not confuse this item with a Lock of Siren Hair or the tradable Siren Hair found in Buried Sea zones. They are both used in a combine for the 6th shawl (see Step 2).

·         SIREN’S GROTTO

o       (1) Swordfish Tooth (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1); This drops off the various Swordfish (Level 49 to 53) and does not stack. It is used in a combine for the 7th shawl (see Step 2);

o       (1) Runed Sea Shell (Magic, Weight 0.2, 1 charge of Enduring Breath); Do not confuse this item with an item of the same name, but with the effect of “Cloud,” rather than “Enduring Breath.” It drops off the various Sirens (Level 51 to 57) in the zone. It is used in a combine for the 7th shawl (see Step 3);

o       (1) Molkor Hide (Weight 1.0); This drops off An Enthralled Molkor (Level 45 to 49) located sparingly about the zone, on land areas and in the caves. It is used in a combine for the 7th shawl (see Step 2).

·         WESTERN WASTES

o       (8) Velium Hound Fur (Magic, Weight 0.3); These drop off of the various wolves about the zone (Level 48 to 61), which are located somewhat sparingly about the zone. They are used one at a time in combines for the 8th shawl (see Step 3).

.

It is used in later combines (see Step 41).

·         POTTERY

o       If you do not have a Pie Tin (Weight 0.1), you will need to make one. First, you need to make an Unfired Pie Tin (Weight 0.1). It is made with two (2) Block of Clay (Weight 1.0, sold by Gilthan Brittleblade, Level 30), a Pie Tin Sketch (Weight 0.1, sold by Brina Snowfox, Level 30) and a Water Flask (sold by Mordin Frostcleaver); This is a 115 trivial combine. .

FIRST SHAWL

4) Now find Loremaster Borannin (Level 61).

He is located on the stage in the “chapel” area, which is to the far left as you come into the main part of the zone.

You can follow the lore with the key phrase, “I seek to perform duties for the crown.”

Otherwise, hand him the four (4) Frost Giant Toes (from Step 1).

He will then give you the Burlap Coldain Prayer Shawl (Magic, Lore, No Trade; 1 AC, 1 WIS, 1 INT; 1 COLD; All/All, Weight 1.0; Type 7 Slot). This is the 1st shawl. Hold on to it!

.

SECOND SHAWL

5) NOTE: You will need a bag slot open for this step.

Now say to Borannin, “What task?”

He will then give you a Preservationists Box (Lore, No Trade, 10-slot Giant, Weight 10.0, 0% Weight Reduction).

.

6) Now put the ten (10) Kromrif Head into the Preservationists Box and combine them (no fail) to make Preserved Kromrif Heads (Lore, No Trade, Temporary, Weight 10.0).

WARNING! This item is Temporary! Do not camp while you still have it!

.

7) Now hand the Preserved Kromrif Heads to Borannin, along with your Burlap Coldain Prayer Shawl.

He will then give you Cloth Coldain Prayer Shawl (Magic, Lore, No Trade; 2 AC, 2 WIS, 2 INT; 2 COLD; All/All, Weight 2.0; Type 7 Slot). This is the 2nd shawl. Hold on to it!

He will also give you Borannin’s Seal (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1).

.

THIRD SHAWL

8) Now head over to Mordin Frostcleaver.
Give him Borannin’s Seal (from Step 7) and follow along, if you wish.
He will give you Leif’s Napkin (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1).
.

9) Now find Guard Leif (Level 40), who is by the fort just outside the chapel.

Give him Leif’s Napkin (from Step 8) and the Tundrabear Sandwich (from Step 2).

He will give you a Used Napkin (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1).

.

10) Head back to Mordin and give him the Used Napkin (from Step 9).

He will then give you Trita’s Napkin (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1).

.

11) Now find Trita Coldheart (Level 31).

She is in the back room of the building directly across from “Frostbeard’s Furs and Leathers.”

Give her Trita’s Napkin (from Step 10) and the Frost Bunny Stew (from Step 2).

She will then give you a Dirty Pot (Lore, No Trade, Weight 1.0).

.

12) Head back to Mordin.

Give him the Dirty Pot (from Step 11) and he will give you Brita’s Napkin (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1).

.

13) Now go find Lorekeeper Brita (Level 40).

She is in the library area (at the chapel).

Give her Brita’s Napkin (from Step 12) and Ulthork Meat Pie (from Step 3).

She will give you a Used Pie Tin (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1).

.

14) Now head back to Mordin.

.

15) Now head over to Grand Historian Thoridain (Level 65), who is in the chapel, on the stage.

Give him the Seal of Thoridain (from Step 15) and the Cloth Coldain Prayer Shawl (from Step 7).

He will then give the Seal of Thoridain back to you. This is an “extra” reward. You can now keep it or dump it... your call.

He will also give you the Woven Coldain Prayer Shawl (Magic, Lore, No Trade; 3 AC, 3 WIS, 3 INT; 3 COLD; All/All, Weight 2.0; Type 7 Slot). This is the 3rd shawl. Hold on to it!

You can then follow along with Borannin and tell him, “I will accept this mission,” (just in case there are some hidden flags you need).

.

FOURTH SHAWL

17) Now find Frundle Frenkler (Level 30), who is in one of the buildings on the right, as you leave the chapel area.

 NOTE: You will need a bag slot open!

Say to Frundle, “What Velium Vapors?”

She will give you a Velium Purifier (Lore, No Trade, Weight 3.0, Weight Reduction 0%).

.

18) Now combine two (2) Small Piece of Velium (Weight 0.5) (from Step 1) and the Velium Vial (from Step 2) inside the Velium Purifier (from Step 17) to make a Vial of Velium Vapors (Magic, Lore, No Trade; Weight 1.0; 1 Charge of Thurgadin Gate).

NOTE: This is a gate potion that even Paladin’s can make. You can make the potion as many times as you want (just don’t use this one, as you need it for this quest). However, it is a lore item, so you can not make another until after you use the one you have.

.

19) EASTERN WASTES: Now for what can be a time consuming task…

Head to the ramp that leads to Kael Drakkel.

You are here to locate Tanik Dreskil (Level 30). He is hidden and you have to find him by running around, which leads to the time consuming part. There are a number of “trigger spots” about the top of this ramp and along both sides of the ramp. If you manage to walk (yes walk, not run) over one of these spots, you will either spawn Tanik Dreskil or an ambush squad comprised of three or four giants (Kromrif Death Squad, Level 43).

If Dreskil appears, he will be lying on the ground.

You have to pay attention. If the death squad appears, you will know because they attack you. If Dreskil appears you can easily miss the emote (something about the “snow crumbles away”).

This part took me several hours over two days. However, there is a trick! A pet class can put a pet on guard. The pet will face the direction of the next spawn spot. It is then it a simple matter of running in that direction to trigger the spawn.

Once you get him to spawn, hand him the Vial of Velium Vapors (from Step 18).

He will give you Tanik’s Note (Lore, No Trade, Weight 1.0).

.

20) THURGADIN: Now head back to Borannin.

Give him Tanik’s Note (from Step 19) and your Woven Coldain Prayer Shawl (from Step 16).

He will then give you the Fur-Lined Coldain Prayer Shawl (Magic, Lore, No Trade; 4 AC, 4 WIS, 4 INT; 4 COLD; All/All, Weight 2.0; Type 7 Slot). This is the 4th shawl. Hold on to it!

Now say to Borannin, “How can I further advance my reputation with the Coldain,” (just in case there is hidden flagging).

.

FIFTH SHAWL

21) Now go find Rexx Frostweaver (Level 30), who is near the bankers.

NOTE: You will need a bag slot open!

Say to him, “I am here for the next prayer shawl.”

He will give you a Glowing Bile Soaker (Lore, No Trade, Weight 5.0, 4-slot Medium, 0% Weight Reduction).

.

22) Now you need to make five (5) Glowing Crystalline Silk Piece (Magic, No Trade, Weight 1.0) (no fail combine).

They are made inside the Glowing Bile Soaker (from Step 21) using three (3) Crystalline Silk Fiber (from Step 2) and a Glowing Worm Bile (from Step 1).

.

23) Now combine the five (5) Glowing Crystalline Silk Piece (from Step 22) with the Fur-Lined Coldain Prayer Shawl (from Step 20) in most any sewing kit (there is no Loom in Thurgadin) to make a Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl (Magic, Lore, No Trade; 5 AC, 5 CHA, 5 WIS, 5 INT; 5 FIRE, 5 COLD; All/All, Weight 2.0; Type 7 Slot). This is a 115 trivial combine.

.

24) Now hand the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl (from Step 24) to Rexx.

He will give the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl back to you. This is the 5th shawl! Hold on to it!

.

SIXTH SHAWL

25) Now turn to Betti Frostweaver (Level 30), who is right there.

Say to her, “I am here regarding the embroidered shawl.”

She will give you an Embroidered Shawl Pattern (No Trade, Weight 0.1).

.

26) Now combine the Embroidered Shawl Pattern, Spool of Sacred Coldain Thread (from Step 2) and the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl inside most any sewing kit (there is no Loom in Thurgadin), to make an Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl (Magic, Lore, No Trade; 6 AC, 6 STA, 6 CHA, 6 WIS, 6 INT; 6 FIRE, 6 COLD; All/All, Weight 2.0; Type 7 Slot). This is a 208 trivial combine.

.

27) Now hand the Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl to Betti.

She will give the Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl back to you. This is the 6th shawl. Hold on to it!

She will also give you a Runed Prayer Shawl Pattern (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1).

.

SEVENTH SHAWL

28) Turn to Gilthan Brittleblade (nearby).

Hand him your Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl and he will hand it back to you (just in case there is some hidden flagging).

NOTE: It appears that this step is supposed to award you Prayer to Brell (Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1). When I did this quest, I did not get this item. This item is only for the purpose of revealing to you a phrase (that you need to speak in the next step). If you do not get this item, don’t worry, as it is not required for the quest. If you do get this item, you can destroy it, as it is not needed for a turn in.

.

29) Now head to back to the chapel area.

You are here to say a phrase to cause a ground spawn.

With no target, you need to say (/say):

“Brell, Thank you for protecting me an seeing me through my trials. Forgive me for the things I think and say and do that displease you. Please reveal to me your will and bless me with the patience and obedience to do that which you desire. Amen.”

You may want to set up a hot key to spam this with, as it may not spawn right away. Just walk about the room and spam the phrase, above. When it spawns, you will see a bag on the ground in front of the stage area. When you do, go pick it up.

This ground spawn is an Etched Rune Pattern (Lore, Weight 0.1).

.

30) Now you need to make an Etched Rune (Magic, Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1). It is made with the Blank Rune (from Step 3), Etched Rune Pattern (from Step 29) and the Burin (from Step 2), in any type of fletching kit.

This is a 168 trivial combine. If you fail you will get the Etched Rune Pattern and the Burin back, but will have to make another Blank Rune.

If you succeed, you will get the Burin back, but you can destroy it if you want to, as it is not needed anymore.

NOTE: Before you go to the next step, go show your Etched Rune to Trademaster Kroven (Level 37, in the back room near the bankers), just in case there are flagging issues.

.

31) Now go find Grimthor Brewbeard (Level 43), who is near the brew barrel in “The Velum Keg.”

Then say to him, “What cutlass fish oil?” and “What Liquid Velium?”

He will give you a Fish Oil Extractor (Lore, No Trade, Weight 3.0, 4-slot Medium, 0% Weight Reduction).

.

Now hand the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl to Dain Frostweaver IV (he will give it back).

He will also give you Expedition Orders (Magic, Lore, No Trade, Weight 0.1). They are used later (see Step 43).

.

43) Now you need to find Loremaster Solstrin (Level 50).

Hand him the Expedition Orders.

He will give you two books… the Forge of Icewell Arms (No Trade, Weight 1.0) and the Forge of Icewell Arms (No Trade, Weight 1.0). .

47) ICECLAD OCEAN: You are looking for General Bragmur (Level 38 to 40). He is to the left, after you come off the bridge from Eastern Wastes.

NOTE: At higher levels, this can certainly be accomplished solo. However, it is always a good idea to bring one or more other players, just to be on the safe side and insure success. This is to insure General Bragmur survives (take aggro from attacking multiple MOB’s), as his death means failure and a lot of back tracking!

Give him the Approved Issue Kit and then the Royal Coldain Orders.

He will respawn (with the armor on) and start walking.

.

48) Now you are to escort General Bragmur and keep him safe.

He will attack any giants that get near and he will also help you fight.

As he walks along you will also reach five “ambush” locations where four or more MOB’s will spawn and attack.

Thus, kill any MOB’s in the immediate vicinity (near and ahead of him). The ambush spots are as follows...

·         Ambush #1: The first ambush takes place just over and down the hill (area of n3350, p7550). Four (4) Kromrif Tracking Wolf (Level 54) will spawn and attack. Kill them, before they kill General Bragmur;

·         Ambush #2: The second ambush is towards the center of the island at the “dragon head” (area of n2200, p7250). Four (4) Frost Giant Skirmisher (Level 55) will spawn and attack. Kill them, before they kill General Bragmur;

·         Ambush #3: The third ambush will be at then next “dragon head” (area of n1100, p5950). Three (3) Frost Giant Skirmisher (Level 55) and Commander Kvarid (Level 57) will spawn and attack. Kill them, before they kill General Bragmur;

·         Ambush #4: The fourth ambush will be on the next island near the Tower of Frozen Shadow (area of p1500, p2250). Five (5) Kromrif Tracking Wolf (Level 54) will spawn and attack. Kill them, before they kill General Bragmur;

·         Ambush #5: The fifth ambush will be at the edge the same island (n3700, p2650). Five (5) Frost Giant Skirmisher (Level 55) and Commander Vjorik (Level 57) will spawn and attack. Kill them, before they kill General Bragmur.

.

49) Now that the ambushes are past, General Bragmur will swim to the next island and head to the pirate camp there.

You will still need to guard him, just in case.

Once he reaches the camp, there will be a scripted event involving Captain Nalot (Level 51). This will spawn the Avatar of Below (Level 68).

Say to Avatar of Below, “It’s a runed coldain prayer shawl.”

Then hand him your Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl.

He will then give you the Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl (see top of page)!

Gratz!
