KATTA CASTRUM IN-ZONE PORTAL ACTIVATION

This is a series of three tasks that allow you to progressively utilize the portals within the Katta Castrum zone.

This is a huge zone. Running place to place in the circular maze of pathways takes time and knowing your way about. Doing these tasks will allow you to utilize the portals within the zone, so you can simply zap yourself about portal to portal.

This form of travel utilizes the circular marked pads on the top of all the ziggurats in the zone. Once you have the proper access and understanding of the symbols, you can zip about (no zone time like a succor, just instant transportation like a mage "Call of the Hero").

These three tasks get progressively more challenging and must be done in order (one leads to the next). While they are solo tasks, they are best accomplished with a good group or even a mini raid.

NOTE: I call them ziggurats, rather than pyramids, because they are flat on top.

NOTE: As you locate each ziggurat, I suggest that you take a moment to mark and update your map for the "name" of the ziggurat (mark it by the name of the key and/or the task step). This will help you in later on.

NOTE: You can not be invisible when attempting to collect a key.

NOTE: Using the portals simply requires stepping on a ziggurat and then clicking the pad you wish to use (there are one of more labeled pads on each ziggurat).

Task #1: Portal Activation: Sanctuary          Task #2: Portal Activation: Dangerous Ground          Task #3: Portal Activation: War Torn Portals

Understanding and Using the Portals

..........................

TASK #1: Portal Activation: Sanctuary

1) KATTA CASTRUM: You are looking for Archarcanist Kirstmycl (Level 75).

He located in the area of n866, n603.

This is outside the main pyramid at the Ziggurat just to the southeast.

Hail him and follow along, or just try saying, "Give me instructions" to get the task called, "Portal Activation: Sanctuary."

.

2) Now you need to "obtain" nine (9) "keys."

NOTE: Make sure you have enough bag space for the nine (9) keys.

These keys are obtained by simply finding the right ziggurat and running up to them. By this I mean running up to the side or all most all he way up the ramp to the top. You do not have to actually go on top.

In fact, I recommend that you don't for any of these quests, as you may accidentally step on a portal pad and port away!

The key you need will then appear on your cursor when you get near the ziggurat.

As you go about collecting your keys, one of three things will take place, as follows:

If either of the first two happen, simply keep running.

However, if you doing this with others, take turns stepping up to the ziggurats and kill any spawns before the next person tries.

Take a look a the zone map. You will see it is a giant circle. The "sanctum" area is the big center circle. Outside that is the "Inner" circle. And finally, around the outer edge is, of course, the "Outer" circle. It looks like four and five circles in some areas, but that is not the case.

I was able to do this, solo, with levitation using my Paladin AA Horse... easily out running aggro.

The keys (all keys are Lore, No Trade, Magic, Weight 0.5) you need are obtained form the ziggurats at the following locations:

Basically, the first one is right there by the NPC. Then run out the south doorway and down (from the center pyramid, where you zone in) and one (1) to the left (through the west doors) and one (1) to the right (through the east doors, then back up in "inner" area to North).

Then go back down towards where the Thalassius zone portal is and head west. The last three (3) ziggurats before the center-area doorway are ones that you will need.

Then go through the west doors and the two (2) ziggurats before the next set of doors ones you also need.

Lastly, go on through the west door and the first ziggurat (at the Atiiki zone portal) is the last one (1) you need.

.

3) Head back to Archarcanist Kirstmycl.

Hail him to complete this task (the keys will automatically disappear from your bags).

You now have the ability to use the portal pads for the portals you just "activated" above.

TASK #2: Portal Activation: Dangerous Ground

1) KATTA CASTRUM: Head back to Archarcanist Kirstmycl.

Hail him and follow along, or just try saying, "The next set?" to get the task called, "Portal Activation: Dangerous Ground."

.

2) This time it gets harder.

NOTE: Make sure you have bag space for the twelve (12) keys.

NOTE: Simply walking up to the side (wall) of the ziggurat, or just to the top of the ramp, should gain you your key.

This time, up to three (3) MOB's (golems and shissars, Level 73 to 78) will spawn and you may or may not get the key on your cursor.

These spawns seem to have a limited "respawn" timer. Thus, if you are doing this with others, one person can run up and spawn them, kill them and then everyone should be able to get their task update without another spawn (normally).

However, this does not mean that others will not spawn a single A Chaotic Portal Energy, which will need to be killed as well.

A slower, DPS and healer may be all you need. If more than one group member is working on the task, you will not have waves of MOB's appear. Simply have one person spawn the MOB's and the rest can safely step up for their keys (only one set of MOB's will spawn in a certain window of time, about five minutes).

The keys (all keys are Lore, No Trade, Magic, Weight 0.5) you need are obtained form the ziggurats at the following locations:

Basically, there is one just NE and NW on the other side of the wall from the center area. All of the rest are on the outer edge, on the east side (go all the way south and just make your way east).

.

3) Along the way, you will have to kill twelve (12) of the MOB's (Shissars) that spawn (a required step in the task).

This shouldn't be an issue.

But if you somehow don't get the kill credits, killing any Shissar trash in the zone will count.

.

4) Head back to Archarcanist Kirstmycl.

Hail him to complete this task (the keys will automatically disappear from your bags).

You now have the ability to use the portal pads you just "activated" above.

TASK #3: Portal Activation: War Torn Portals

1) KATTA CASTRUM: Head back to Archarcanist Kirstmycl.

Hail him and follow along, or just try saying, "Instructions" to get the task called, "Portal Activation: War Torn Portals."

He will give you a Wand of Portal Stabilization (Lore, No Trade, Weight 1.5, Clicky Effect: 20 Charges of "Stabilize Portal").

NOTE: The wand does have only 20 charges, don't waste them.

.

2) This time out, merely going up on the ziggurat platform (not the ziggurat) will cause MOB's to spawn.

You will get anywhere from three (3) to as many as six (6) MOB's at each one (same MOB's as before, Level 73 to 81).

Once they are dead, you have about a 5-minute window where they can not respawn. Wait too long and they will respawn! So have everyone get their update by going up near the top of the ziggurat and clicking their Wand of Portal Stabilization (you have to equip it).

When someone does this, one of two things will happen. They will either get their key, or a single A Chaotic Portal Energy will spawn. If it does, you will have to kill it. When it dies, the key will appear on your cursor.

The keys (all keys are Lore, No Trade, Magic, Weight 0.5) you need are obtained form the ziggurats at the following locations:

Basically, go south to the outer edge. The go west and. All of the portals are around to the west.

.

3) Along the way, you will have to kill fifteen (15) of the MOB's (Shissars) that spawn (a required step in the task).

This shouldn't be an issue.

But if you somehow don't get the kill credits, killing any Shissar trash in the zone will count.

.

4) Head back to Archarcanist Kirstmycl.

Hail him to complete this task (the keys will automatically disappear from your bags).

You now have the ability to use all portal pads! Gratz!

Understanding and Using the Portals

Using the portals simply requires stepping up on a ziggurat and clicking on one of the pads (or stepping on it).

Each ziggurat may have one of more pads with markings on them.

Some pads are "broken" (they a visibly damaged) and are useless.

The zone is huge. If you look at the map, you should be able to discern that is comprised of giant circles (or rings).

Knowing which pad to get where, requires understanding the symbols, but basically, you can travel as follows:

Each of these "rings" has a number of ziggurats with portal pads.

The zone is also divided into three more areas, that do not follow the ring patterns, per se. They more follow the "connectivity" of areas (the maze doesn't necessarily run in a circle).

The western area is basically the outer ring, from about the 7 o'clock to 12 o'clock positions. The southern area is basically a pie-shape area, shooting down from the center. The center/eastern area is everything else.

I explained all this because it has to do with the understanding the symbols. Here is a chart that may help:

SYMBOL

MEANING

MISC. INFO

Great Pyramid (center)

Note the three (3) lines on top and bottom, indicating a connection to the very center

Sanctum Area (Azia and Beza, respectively)

Note the two (2) lines on top and bottom indicating a connection to the sanctum area

Inner area (Azia, Beza, Caza and Dena, respectively)

Note the single (1) line on top and bottom, indicating a connection to the inner ring

Outer area (Azia, Beza, Caza, Dena, Ena, Fana, Gaza and Heda, respectively)

Note the lack of any lines (0), indicating an outer ring connection

Symbol that indicates an eastern connection

Indicator of a connection to the east of center

Symbol that indicates a western connection

Indicator of a connection to the west of center

In this example, you can see symbol combinations

The symbols clearly show this connection is in the inner ring (line on top and bottom) and it is in the west hemisphere (western symbol)

NOTE: There are more unrelated symbols (four of them), but they are indicators of a zone connections, not a portal connections.
